NAME: Hardeep Gill

Contact email: h.gill101@gmail.com

Degree: MSc. Biology – Specialization in Chemical and Environmental Toxicology

Title of Thesis: The Effect of Aluminium Industry Effluents on Sediment Bacterial Communities

Institution and Advisor: University of Ottawa – Department of Biology – Dr. Alexandre J Poulain

Graduation Date: Fall 2012

Career Goals: To secure employment within the public or private sector in a science-based setting that would allow for personal growth and career development.

Connection with Laurentian SETAC: I joined L-SETAC while being a student at the University of Ottawa. I regularly attend pub night talks and participate in the annual Ottawa Regional Science Fair heading the L-SETAC delegation of judges.

Accomplishment I am most proud of: I had an extremely successful field experiment dealing with live fish specimens during my MSc degree. The previous trial run was a complete failure – my specimens died yielding no useful information. The second time around we improved on our methods to great success.

Big cheese I would most like to have a drink with: President Obama

Most people won’t guess that: I was born in the UK.

I can brag that I have rubbed shoulders with: Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan

My graduate experience was more than just a degree because: It offered a critique of my own personal abilities, showed my strengths and highlighted my weaknesses
