In celebration of the United Nations International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Laurentian SETAC Diversity in Science Committee (L-DISC) is planning a ‘Diversity in Science’ event on Monday, February 11th, 2019. L-DISC is inviting YOU, L-SETAC members, to participate in this event! We welcome all members of the Laurentian SETAC committee to get involved, and are looking for volunteers. The event will communicate our science and discuss career paths into science with high school students in the Halton region. Robert Bateman high school will be hosting the event, and inviting schools from within the region. The event will involve: > Short presentations from Laurentian SETAC members to introduce: 1) who they are; 2) what they do, and; 3) their best piece of advice for students interested in pursuing a science career. > There will be several stations organized around the following proposed themes: environmental toxicology, remediation, microplastics, indoor pollution, paleolimnology, environmental chemistry, environmental toxicity testing, Indigenous consultation and field work activities. > Poster boards will be available to display posters showcasing different science fields to students. > We also welcome Laurentian SETAC members to provide field work photos, or any photos which can summarize their work, to be included in a presentation slideshow for the day. Please contact sarah.roberts2@canada.ca by 21st December 2018 if you are interested in participating in this event. Kind regards, Laurentian SETAC Diversity in Science Committee
