Abstract: Self-care is often framed as an individual responsibility, something that can be solved with better routines, boundaries, or personal wellness practices. Yet many professionals, particularly women in demanding fields such as science and academia, are navigating systems that make sustainable self-care difficult. This talk explores radical self-care: an approach that considers the broader relational, cultural, and systemic forces that shape burnout, exhaustion, and emotional labour. Drawing from psychology, somatic and trauma-informed approaches, feminist scholarship, and the work of thinkers who have challenged traditional models of self-care, this talk invites participants to reconsider how care, sustainability, and professional life intersect. The workshop will offer reflections, practical strategies, and an invitation to rethink how care, sustainability, and boundaries can exist within high-demand professional environments.
Bio: Dr. Carol-Anne Hendry is a clinical psychologist and co-director of Solasta Psychological Services in Ontario, Canada. She works with adolescents and adults from an attachment-based, experiential, and trauma-informed perspective and is deeply engaged in training and supervision of emerging clinicians. Dr. Hendry also teaches psychology at the University of Guelph and Guelph-Humber and regularly delivers workshops on mental health, relational wellbeing, and sustainable professional practice. Her work emphasizes the intersection of personal wellbeing, relational systems, and the broader structures that shape our work and lives.
We look forward to seeing you there!
